The Library

Palazzo Lupis it houses one of the largest private libraries in Calabria, in addition to the family archive with documents and parchments, some dating back to the fifteenth century.  Mirror of the erudite bibliophile passion, common to most of the Calabrian aristocratic families, the book heritage of the palace counts more than 7,000 volumes, a substantial portion of which are ancient or rare editions. Among these there are several volumes from the private library of the Baron Don Nicodemo Palermo of Princes of Santa Margherita (1825-1901), whose daughter, Princess Donna Dorotea, was the last of his family and married the Marquis Don Giovanni Lupis Macedonio Guerrisi.

Prominent figure in nineteenth-century liberal movements in Italy, passionate bibliophile, polyglot (he spoke and wrote fluently twelve languages), Nicodemo Palermo di Santa Margherita gathered an impressive private library, which numbered nearly 25,000 volumes and by which the surviving part is now part of the library of Palazzo Lupis.
